This logistical centre in Amsterdam purchases, tests, and stores equipment including vehicles, communications material, power supplies, water-processing facilities and nutritional supplements.

SAMU provides strategic, clinical and implementation support to various MSF projects with medical activities related to HIV and TB. This medical unit is based in Cape Town, South Africa.

Cyclones Hit The Southeast Coast of Yemen

MSF provides help to people affected by the cyclones in the province of Hadramaut

Two cyclones in one week hit the southeast coast of Yemen early November and did major damage. Hundreds of families have lost their homes in the provinces of Hadramaut. In Moukalla, the main city of the governorate, small houses have not withstood the tornado, torrents of water spilled into the city and destroyed bridges and infrastructures. Kobane Health Administration launches a measles vaccination campaign with support of MSF

“The campaign took place in four locations in Kobane town to provide easy access to vaccination sites for residents” said Jason Mills, MSF Head of Mission. The Kobane Health Administration, in cooperation with MSF teams, provided measles vaccination and vitamin A for children between six month and five years of age. The campaign started on 18 of August and lasted for six days in town; followed by three days in four rural locations in the canton. “The teams vaccinated 3,410 children in Kobane town and 2,366 in the surrounding villages.” Mills added. Health risks increasing for people in Bentiu Protection of Civilian Camp

“The current situation is precarious, with new arrivals coming every day to the UN Protection of Civilians camp in Bentiu in search of shelter and protection. The upsurge of fighting in Unity state since April has forced many from their homes and an estimated 110,000 displaced people are now living here. That’s more than double the number of people here a few months ago and it feels more like a city than a camp," says Dr Ruby Siddiqui, MSF's epidemiologist. "There is a real risk of an outbreak of hepatitis E virus. Although there have been sporadic cases of hepatitis E virus detected since October 2014, over the last six weeks there appears to have been a consistent and significant increase in people with jaundice (signs of liver inflammation) who have later tested positive for hepatitis E by rapid diagnostic testing. Currently MSF is seeing a high hospitalisation ratio (37.0%) and a high case fatality ratio (4.0%)." Voices from the Field - 3 Aug 2015
