MSF began work in Cuba in 1993 and closed our last project in 2000.

MSF worked in Cuba for seven years, distributing needed medical supplies and running sexual health programmes.

In 1993, an economic crisis left Cuba’s dynamic health system in need of medicine and medical equipment. MSF began distributing medicine and equipment to 20 hospitals across the country. Our distribution project ended in 1995 and we started a prevention programme for sexually transmitted infections in 1996.

This programme educated groups at risk for sexually transmitted infections. MSF worked with the Ministry of Health to provide a tour across the country which distributed contraceptives and raised awareness on sexually transmitted infections. The tour through Cuba was a successful end to this project and we left the country in 2000.
