Standing up to Chagas at the Paraguayan Chaco

MSF first worked in Paraguay in 2010 and closed its projects in 2013.

MSF began working in Paraguay in 2010 to raise awareness of Chagas disease and improve diagnosis and treatment.

Working with the Ministry of Health, we piloted a better intervention strategy that brought diagnosis and treatment of Chagas closer to remote communities. The project was integrated into Boqueron regional hospital, two smaller hospitals, and 15 health centres and health posts.

In 2013, MSF left Paraguay but continued to support the health authorities with developing a national protocol for Chagas diagnosis and treatment.
