More staff en route to volcano site in Goma

MSF has sent an additional team of four - along with two trucks transporting medical supplies and water sanitation material - from Kigali to reinforce the MSF team currently present in Gisenyi, Rwanda. The MSF staff are assisting the displaced population currently fleeing Goma following the eruption of the volcano Mount Nyiragongo.

MSF shall be sending more reinforcements from Europe and its other bases in the region according to ongoing assessments of the situation. The aid intervention in the Gisenyi region will be for a minimum of six weeks and shall include providing medical support, shelter and water sanitation for the displaced.

The MSF team on the ground is continuing to monitor the situation regarding further displacment of people and potential disease outbreaks in order to provide extra support if and when needed.
