This weekend, MSF sent a team of three people to Assam, a state in the far eastern part of India where a violent ethnic conflict is going on between the Karbi and Dimasi peoples.

Last Monday, Oct 17, Dimasi militants brutally killed 37 Karbies after attacking a bus. As a result of the clashes, between 20,000 and 27,000 people of both ethnic groups have fled to nearby hills.

MSF teams have visited the affected areas and the camps there. Existing medical facilities cannot cope, the water supply is insufficient and the water and hygiene situation in the camps is deplorable.

MSF will run mobile clinics to the camps of both groups. The team has built up a good relationship with both sides.
