We set up the MSF Access Campaign in 1999 to push for access to, and the development of, life-saving and life-prolonging medicines, diagnostic tests and vaccines for people in our programmes and beyond.

Some 10,000 Afghan IDPs stuck on border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan

The ongoing fighting between the Northern Alliance (NA) and the Taliban movement has left almost 200,000 people displaced in Northern Afghanistan. Approximately 10,000 of them were unable to flee to safe areas and are now stuck on two islands within the Pianj river between the Tajik border and the Afghan front-line. Outlook in Chechnya grim, but MSF expands

In Chechnya and the neighbouring Russian republic of Ingushetia, where many Chechens fled to, MSF is currently distributing essential medicines. The medicines go directly to various hospitals and clinics. In addition MSF has mobile clinics in Ingushetia and is providing additional support to one hospital in Ingushetia and two in Chechnya. Serbia

Srebrenica five years on

Eric Stobbaerts, currently MSF Spain's General Director, was the General Coordinator of the MSF missions in Yugoslavia between 1993 and 1995. In July 1995, Srebrenica, an enclave protected by the United Nations, was taken by the Serbian Army. As a result, 40,000 people were deported and 7,000 missing.

Our actions are guided by medical ethics and the principles of independence and impartiality. We are a non-profit, self-governed, member-based organisation.
