On Sunday, 25-year-old Collins from Cameroon was rescued by the Dignity I, one of the MSF rescue ships in the Mediterranean. 240 people were rescued that morning. MSF warns that thousands of refugees and migrants in the Balkans have been exposed to conditions that pose a real threat to their health as assistance fails to meet minimum standard.“The lack of basic services is already having an impact on their health, and the situation will only get worse this winter if adequate shelters, warm food and hygiene facilities at registration and transportation points are not rapidly provided," says Aurelie Ponthieu, MSF’s Humanitarian Adviser on Displacement. MSF brings medicines and basic care to a remote area in the north-eastern province of Vakaga

“When we arrived the first week of September we found a very precarious situation as regards healthcare,” said the MSF's head of the medical intervention, Chiara Domenichini. “The community provided us with mortality data that were very alarming, more than twice what is considered an emergency situation.” MSF's emergency team in CAR has carried out a brief intervention in the remote north-eastern province of Vakaga, where humanitarian aid has been scarce despite the clear effects of years of conflict and displacement and the shortage of health resources in the area, which is home to about 70,000 people. MSF teams help create a transit camp for refugees arriving to Idomeni

A team of MSF logisticians has helped build a transit camp with the capacity to accommodate more than 1,000 people in the Idomeni area in Greece, close to the border with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). The structures will serve as a facility for the thousands of refugees and migrants that pass through the area every day.

MSF has set up four large 240 square metre tents and two tents of 45 square metres to be used for our medical activities. The camp is also equipped with basic sanitation facilities and water supply. Project Update - 26 Sep 2015
