'A people way too used to suffering'

Six years after the war, a weak health system simply cannot cope with constant emergencies. As the January 9 th referendum approaches, the South is battling to contain its biggest outbreak of kala azar in eight years – a fatal disease, if untreated. Malnutrition is chronic, violence continues to destroy lives and preventable diseases are constant killers.
