Vaccination campaign targets 210,000 in Somalia

With a confirmed outbreak of meningitis in Hargeisa, Somalia, MSF has started a vaccination campaign. The MSF staff intend to inoculate a total of 210,000 people, using a serum provided by UNICEF and the WHO.

Following an outbreak that was confirmed in early January, MSF immediately sent a team to the Hargeisa area to assess the situation. The MSF vaccination campaign began on January 24.

The situation outside the city is still unknown, though reports were coming in two weeks ago of cases of meningitis there.
